A great photo taken by Justin Nash before he headed off watch and left a fun anchor watch to the other guys.

very colorful deck.. is this a supply ship? or does it have some other specific purpose?

    • It is actually a barge that carries refined petroleum products. The picture was taken from the upper wheelhouse of the tug.

hey, that makes sens.. I spent 4 years in Pittsburgh at Duquesne University, and I used to sit on the bluff overlooking the Monongahela river, watching the barges travel up and down. I often dreamed of trying to get a job on one of them. Throughout my career of teaching math, I have revisited that idea.. at 54, it is a bit late to get started as a deckhand, but I still have this backup plan as signing on as a cook. I enjoy spending time in the kitchen – both cooking and baking, and I assume that the ability and creativeness of the cook has a direct bearing on the morale of the crew.. something tells me that you guys would love sticky buns and chocolate cake that does not come out of a box 🙂 let me know if you find yourselves short in the galley! jt

      • We are always looking for cooks in the oil patch, though it isn’t for the faint of heart……
