How Big is Big Oil? Two

I’ve posted before on the sheer scale of the facilities and equipment we deal with in the oil industry, and a friend sent me some pictures that once again make you sit back and take in the size of things.

The heavy lift vessel is the Dockwise Vanguard, the largest heavy lift vessel in the world. The first of her kind with the open bow design allowing for even longer cargos such as deepwater spar platforms and FPSO’s to be transported. The platform is the Jack St. Malo platform which will serve the St. Malo field in the Gulf of Mexico. All pictures are courtesey of Robert St. Peter Blaire, a classmate and paddling buddy of mine from MMA. He works for Signet Towing in texas and they performed the escort and docking work as the Vanguard brought the platform into Ingleside texas and the Kiewit Offshore Yard.
