Gear Review, Grundens Shackleton Duffel Bag

The last two days have been an early christmas of sorts for me, as I will be at work for christmas and new years. One great piece of gear that I got for work is the Grundens Shackleton Duffel Bag. This is a velcro and roll down style closure, fully water proof duffel. It is made of heavy duty 500d PVC tarpaulin fabric with 100% radio frequency welded seems, and just has a rugged bullet proof feel. Once you pack it and roll down and clip the top, it also has compression straps to help pack it down tightly. Another nice feature of this bag is a hidden compartment in the bottom that when opened up you can pull out two padded backpack straps which clip to drings at the bottom of the bag, thus quickly converting the duffel to a large backpack.

First Impressions: I definitely like it, it’s even black, we’ll see how it holds up over time.

Where to get: I got this great piece of gear as an early Christmas present from my thoughtful mother, however you can probably get it from any grundens dealer.

Can we have an update on this bag please? Many thanks.

    • Dan,
To be honest I switched to a large roller bag several years ago and haven’t used this one since. I did hold up admirably for a year of more of heavy use. The only damage being partly my fault when I left the back pack straps out and attached while checking the bag. One of the eyes where the straps clip was torn off at some point during the loading/unloading of the plan process.
