Fully Mobile Part 2

After about a week with the Ipad 2, I am still really pleased with it. The ability to access information on the go with a large screen in addition to the group of useful maritime apps I have downloaded to it is more or less a life changer.

List of Apps:

Navionics: GPS chartplotter, can save track lines.

Boating Calcs: Now this app is useful as hell, it would take paragraphs to list everything it has, but if you can think up a calculation or glossary item you might need to look up working in the small vessel industry, it probably has it.

Marine Tides Planner: Does what it says.

Marine Traffic: Free AIS vessel tracking app.

Ship Vault: Search a ship by name or IMP number, doesn’t always find smaller tonnage passengers vessels and work boats.

U.S. Navy Salvor’s Handbook: Digital version of the classic reference book.

NOAA Ocean buoys: Lists all of the NOAA weather buoys by region or on a map.

Marine Calculator: Does a few of the calculations that Boating Calcs doesn’t, Mercator and great circle sailings, true wind from vessel course/speed and relative wind.

Knots Guide: Lists a whole mess of maritime knots, how to tie them, what they are used for.

It takes some ok pictures as well…..
