Great Boats Two…………………..

Since I was an infant I have grown up on a number of family boats. The vast majority of the boats being sailboats, and to be honest that is where my heart really lies with boats. However certain powerboats really tug on my heart, chiefly among them are trawlers  and down east boats, or a wonderful combination of the two.

She may be tied to the dock, but she looks like she is headed places

Currently my family owns a 42′ Bristol trawler that is without a doubt one of my favorite boats. She does an easy 9 knots burning about 4 gallons an hour, and has classic lines that make a lot of grandbanks owners jealous. She has a forward vberth and full head, a large main salon, and a aft master cabin with a queen size bunk and full head complete with a bathtub.

Another favorite boat belongs to friends and customers of my family. It is a fairly new trawler built on a large lobster boat hull, and is the perfect boat for distance cruising for two people. She has a single large cat to the two smaller Perkins in the Witch, and is quite a bit faster being a semi displacement hull.  The best part of her design and lay out in my opinion is the fact that she has a true wheelhouse. I love this because in the middle of the night, in the fog, or in other wise tough navigational situations, the last thing I want to deal with is one of the kids turning on lights in the galley for a glass of water and blinding me at the helm.
